Short Term Forecast: More warm and muggy weather greets us on this Thursday Morning. We are mostly cloudy with temperatures in the mid 70s.
The ridge of high pressure remains centered over Texas today, but we have a cold front drifting south toward Baton Rouge this afternoon. The front will not make it here, but it will be close enough to help set off isolated showers and thunderstorms with partly to mostly cloudy skies. However, not all of you will see rain today. High temperatures will still make it into the mid 90s before the rain starts. The heat index will be running 100° to 105°.
Some showers and storms will be possible this evening with partly cloudy skies. Then we will stay partly cloudy overnight with muggy low temperatures in the mid 70s.
Friday will be a drier day as the front lifts off to the northeast. The ridge of high pressure will build back over the area and that is what will keep us pretty dry. We will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with only a storm or two possible. It will be very hot and humid with highs in the mid 90s and the heat index still over 100°. Friday Night will have a few clouds with lows in the mid 70s.
Weekend Forecast: Saturday will be just like Friday as the area of high pressure is still over us. We will be partly cloudy with a storm or two. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s on Saturday Night.
The eastern edge of the high pressure will be over Baton Rouge on Sunday and it will be weaker. This will allow for a better chance of storms. Therefore, we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
Tropical Outlook: Now that we are moving into August, we start to see an increase in tropical activity, especially out in the open Atlantic. This Morning, everything is still quiet in the tropics, and I am not expecting any tropical system to form during the next two days.
Be sure to stay cool and have a great day! -Dave
