Get Ready For A Wet Easter Weekend

Short Term Forecast:  We have one more pretty chilly morning here in Baton Rouge.  It is mostly clear with temperatures in the 40s.  Better take that coat again this morning, but you will not need it later.

The area of high pressure is well off to the east of Louisiana, and that means we will have plenty of southerly winds today.  This will pump in the warm air and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.  We will become partly cloudy with highs in the mid 70s this afternoon.

The clouds will stick around tonight and we could have some patchy fog forming.  Temperatures will be mild as they only fall to the mid 50s.

Easter Weekend:  It still looks like we will have some rain and thunderstorms for this weekend.  Saturday will be nice for much of the day with partly to mostly cloudy skies.  Isolated showers will develop during the afternoon/evening hours, but not everyone will see the rain.  It will stay warm and become more humid with highs in the upper 70s.  Saturday Night will b…

Much Warmer Temperatures Return Today

Short Term Forecast:  We have one more chilly morning to get through today with clear skies and temperatures in the upper 30s.  Better take that jacket with you once again.

We will become much warmer this afternoon!  This is thanks to the area of high pressure moving east of Louisiana and the winds will come out of the southeast.  Some high clouds will also stream by making it mostly sunny, but it will still be a beautiful day.  High temperatures will be in the lower 70s.

It will not be as cold tonight thanks to the southeasterly winds.  Expect mainly clear skies with low temperatures in the mid 40s.

Friday will become even warmer, but we will have partly cloudy skies overhead.  A stray sprinkle can't be ruled out, but most of you will stay dry.  High temperatures will be in the mid 70s.  Friday Night will be mostly cloudy with lows in the mid 50s.

Easter Weekend:  It still looks like we will have some rain this weekend, but it will mainly fall on Easter.  Right now, …

Freeze Warning In Effect Until 8 AM

The NWS has issued a Freeze Warning for the Baton Rouge area and South Mississippi until 8 AM.  Temperatures have fallen to freezing in Baton Rouge and below freezing in areas north and east of the city.  All plants should have been covered or brought inside.  If they we not taken care of, the freezing temperatures will likely kill any vegetation.

After 8 AM the temperatures will rise above freezing and the warning will expire.  Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum has all the details on 2une In this morning.

The Warming Trend Begins Today

...Freeze Warning until 8 AM for the Baton Rouge Area...

Short Term Forecast:  Brrr!!  It is a very cold start and frosty to the day with clear skies and temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s!  Hopefully you brought in all of your plants, or covered them up.  Bundle up as you head to work and school this morning!

We will become warmer this afternoon as the area of high pressure moves to the northeast of Louisiana.  This will shift the winds from the northwest to the east and that will start to bring in the warmer air.  We will remain sunny with high temperatures in the lower to mid 60s.

Expect another pretty chilly night across Southeast Louisiana, but we will stay above freezing.  Parts of Southern Mississippi may come close to freezing.  Lows in the city will drop to the upper 30s, and in South Mississippi the lower to mid 30s.

Rest of the Week:  The area of high pressure will continue to move east of Louisiana that will shift the winds from the east to the south ove…

The Unseasonably Cool Weather Continues

Short Term Forecast:  It is a very cold morning across the Capital City with clear skies and temperatures in the 30s.  A light freeze is expected!  I hope that you brought in your plants last night.  Take that jacket with you this morning.

An area of high pressure remains over the Southeast U.S. today.  This will keep us sunny and with the northwest winds over us, we will stay cool.  High temperatures will be in the upper 50s.

Another freeze is expected tonight for the Baton Rouge area.  We will be clear with calm winds and very good radiational cooling.  Low temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s.  The NWS has issued a Freeze Warning for areas along and north of the I-10/12 corridor from 2 AM to 8 AM Wednesday Morning.  The freeze could last 2 to 6+ hours and that would be long enough to kill any vegetation.  Make sure you bring in your plants or at least cover them tonight!  Bundle up!

Week Ahead:  The area of high pressure will stay put through Wednesday. …

Freeze Warning Tonight in Baton Rouge

A Freeze Warning is in effect for the Baton Rouge area tonight!  The winds will calm down as an area of high pressure sits over the Deep South.  This will draw in some very cold arctic air right into Baton Rouge.  We will have unseasonably cold air in the upper 20s to lower 30s tonight.  Some vegetation has been planted already and this freeze could kill it.  Therefore, the NWS has issued a Freeze Warning from Midnight to 8 AM Tuesday:

Here are the details on the Freeze Warning:
Here is what you should do tonight:
We could also have freezing temperatures in the Baton Rouge area on Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning.  Some areas could even see a light freeze on Wednesday Night/Thursday Morning.

I recommend keeping your plants inside tonight until Thursday!  This way they are safe and can continue to grow.

Keep it tuned to WBRZ, WBRZ.com and my Weather Blog posts through Facebook and Twitter for more information regarding the freezes the next few nights.

Stay warm! -Dave
