Rain returns tonight with some strong to severe storms possible on Friday

I am expecting two rounds of rain/storms to move across Southeast Louisiana over the next two days.  Here is how it will play out:

Round 1 Tonight:  A disturbance will move across Louisiana tonight and this will help to set off scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Some of the storms could be strong with heavy rain and gusty winds.  The threat for severe weather is low, so I can't rule out one or two becoming severe.  Otherwise, it will be a mostly cloudy, mild and muggy night with lows in the mid 60s.

Round 2 Friday:  As the first disturbances moves east of Louisiana on Friday, a cold front and low will move toward the state from the west.  Ahead of the front it will be unseasonably warm and humid.  This will become fuel for the storms as the atmosphere becomes unstable.

Friday Morning will start off with some showers and a few t'storms as the disturbance moves to the east.  The chance for rain will be only around 30% on Friday Afternoon with mostly cloudy skies.  High temper…

Warmer and more active weather headed to Southeast Louisiana

Chilly Afternoon/Evening:  So much for Spring!?!  Thanks to all the clouds today we did not warm up much at all as high temperatures only got into the upper 50s - that is just about what our low temperatures should be this time of year!  The clouds will stick around this evening and the temperatures will likely hold steady in the mid to upper 50s.  It will still be a little breezy with southeast winds of 10-20 mph.

Overnight, the winds will die down and the temperatures will actually start to rise as warmer air begins to move our way.  It will remain cloudy with some patchy fog, and there is a slight chance (10%) for a shower.  Low temperatures will likely occur around midnight in the mid 50s.

A Rainy Thursday:  Your commute on Thursday Morning will be fine with cloudy skies and some fog.  As we move into the afternoon hours, a disturbance will move over Louisiana from the west.  This will tap into the warm and more humid air over us, and that will set off isolated showers and few t&…

Sunny, cool and gorgeous weather today

Pleasant Weather Today:  You can expect a gorgeous day today with plenty of sunshine as an area of high pressure sits over Louisiana.  We will still be a little cool with highs in the lower 60s.  It would be a nice day to go out for lunch!

Another Cold Night:  Get ready for another chilly night across Southeast Louisiana.  We will be clear with lows in the mid 30s north of the lake with some patchy frost, and in the mid 40s south of the lake.  Be sure to cover or bring in any plants tonight north of the lake!

Friday will start out quite chilly, but we will quickly warm up.  The area of high pressure moves east of Louisiana toward Georgia.  This will shift the winds from the northeast to the southeast and that will help to warm us back up.  It will draw up some Gulf Moisure, so we'll become partly cloudy with highs around 70.  Friday Night will not be as cold with mostly cloudy skies and lows near 60.

Weekend Outlook:  Some rain and t'storms will return each day as an…

Big changes are coming to our weather this week

A Perfect Monday:  We will have a beautiful afternoon across Southeast Louisiana with mostly clear skies and Spring-like temperatures in the mid 70s.  Be sure to get outside and enjoy this weather because it will be changing soon!

Clouds will be on the increase tonight, and we could see a few spotty showers toward daybreak.  Patchy fog is also possible.  It will be a cool night with lows in the mid to upper 50s north and south of the lake.

A Wet Tuesday:  The big change in our weather starts tomorrow.  An area of low pressure will form in the Western Gulf and track toward Louisiana.  This will send scattered to numerous showers and some thunderstorms over us starting mid morning.  Some heavy rain is likely for areas along and south of I-10.  1 to 2 inches of rain will be possible according to the latest forecast models.  See the image below.  I'm not expecting any severe weather at this time, but there could be some strong storms along the coast with gusty winds aroun…

Radar Is Quiet Now, But Rain And Storms Return Later Tonight

Short Term Forecast:  As many of you recovered from Mardi Gras you saw that most of the day was dry.  Unfortunately, more rain is on the way.  Another disturbance (upper-level low) is moving out of Texas and across Louisiana.

This system will set off a 60% chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms across Southeast Louisiana tonight.  I'm not expecting any severe weather, but a few storms could produce some frequent lightning strikes with heavy rain.  It will stay cool overnight with lows near 50.

The showers will continue through the morning hours before they taper off into the lunch hour.  Then we could see another round of rain as the upper-level low passes by the city.  Highs will be in the upper 50s.

Some showers will lingering Thursday Night, but they will be coming to an end overnight.  Then it will be mostly clear and cooler with lows in the lower to mid 40s.

The sunshine returns on Friday along with some slightly warmer temperatures.  You can expect partly clou…
