Short Term Forecast: It is a pretty quiet Friday Morning across the Capital City area. We have some clouds and muggy temperatures in the 70s.
Get ready for a very hot afternoon with little to no rain. A ridge of high pressure will be sitting over the Southeast U.S. back to Texas. This will help to limit the amount of storms that will pop-up and make it hot! We will be partly cloudy with only a few storms possible. High temperatures will be in the mid 90s. The heat index will be 100° to 105°. Please stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you will be working outside for a long period of time today.
Some clouds will stick around tonight with muggy low temperatures falling to the mid 70s.
Weekend Forecast: The ridge of high pressure will stay over us on Saturday, so our weather will be just like Friday. We will be partly cloudy with only spotty storms possible. Highs will be in the mid 90s with the heat index over 100°. Saturday Night will be partly cloudy with lows in the mid 70s.
The ridge will break down a little on Sunday and it will move to the west of Louisiana. This will allow us to get a few more storms popping up. Therefore, we will be partly cloudy with stray showers and storms. Highs will stay in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
Next Week Outlook: The ridge will continue to move to the west on Monday through Wednesday. This will allow for disturbances, or short waves, to move over Louisiana each day. That means the chance for rain will go up! Each day will be partly cloudy with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows will be in the mid 70s.
Thursday and Friday will still have some storms popping up over Baton Rouge, but there will not be as many. Each day will be partly cloudy with only isolated storms. High temperatures will climb into the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
Tropical Outlook: The remnants of Dorian just will not go away. They are part of a nearly stationary trough of low pressure located midway between Southeastern Florida and the Bahamas. Some of the thunderstorms are showing signs of organization on the radar and satellite images. Gradual development of this system is possible before upper-level winds become unfavorable development this weekend. NHC is giving this system a medium chance for development during then next 5 days. It will be tracking toward SE Florida this weekend as it moves to the NNE and eventually becomes associated with a front.
Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics are quiet and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through the weekend.
Be sure to stay cool and have a great weekend!
