Short Term Forecast: We have another very pleasant start to the day with mostly clear skies, low humidity and temperatures in the upper 60s.
The trough of low pressure remains over the Eastern U.S. today. There is also an upper-level and surface low is sitting over Missouri and that is bringing us some northerly winds again. This is keeping us less humid inland, but the humidity will start to increase along the coast. We will have partly cloudy skies with spotty showers and storms around the Baton Rouge area. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s.
Look for some coastal showers and storms overnight, but we will have some clouds inland. It will remain comfortable with lows in the upper 60s.
Week Ahead: The trough will remain over the Eastern U.S. on Wednesday, but we will have more moisture returning to town thanks to southerly winds replacing the northerly winds. This will make it partly cloudy and more humid with isolated showers and storms popping up in the afternoon hours. Highs will be in the upper 80s. Wednesday Night will be partly cloudy with a few spotty showers. Lows will fall to the upper 60s.
Even more moisture is pumped in from the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday, the 4th of July. We will have a very typical Summer day with partly cloudy skies and isolated afternoon/evening showers and storms. It looks like that the rain will dissipate in time for the Fireworks on the Mississippi at 9 PM. Highs will be around 90 and lows will be back in the lower 70s Thursday Night with more muggy conditions.
The weather will really start to go downhill on Friday and that will last into the weekend. The trough of low pressure will move to the west of us, and a tropical wave with deep tropical moisture will move from Florida, where it is currently located, to over Louisiana. We will be MUCH more humid thanks to all the added moisture. This will give us scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Some heavy rain will be possible! High temperatures will only get into the upper 80s and lows in the lower 70s Friday Night with some lingering showers.
Weekend Outlook: Get ready for a soggy weekend across the Capital City and for much of the Gulf Coast. The trough will continue to move westward, but we will actually see an increase in the amount of rain/storms on Saturday. Even more heavy rain will be possible, and flash flooding could be a concern. Forecast models are showing we could pick up 1-4 inches of rain between Friday and Sunday. See the image for rainfall totals for the next 7 days. Highs will be in the upper 80s and lows in the lower 70s.
The rain start to taper off a little on Sunday with only scattered showers and storms. Some more sunshine will pop-out, so we will be a little hotter with highs around 90. Sunday Night will be partly cloudy with lows in the mid 70s.
Tropical Outlook: All areas of the Tropical Atlantic Basin are quiet and I'm not expecting any tropical systems to form in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Continue to enjoy the nice weather and have a great day! -Dave
