Short Term Forecast: We have a quiet morning across the Baton Rouge area with clear skies. It is not as cool with temperatures ranging from the upper 50s to lower 60s.
You can expect a pretty pleasant day once again, but it will be warmer. An area of high pressure is sitting over the Northern Gulf of Mexico. This will be moving to the east today, and that will bring in southerly winds over us. We will have mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies this afternoon. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 80s.
It will become a little more humid tonight with partly cloudy skies. Some patchy fog is also possible. Low temperatures will fall to the lower 60s.
Rest of the Week: The southerly winds will persist on Thursday, and that means we will have much more humid conditions over Baton Rouge. There will be a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the mid 80s. Thursday Night will be mostly cloudy with a few spotty showers popping up. Lows will be in the mid 60s.
Get ready for plenty of rain and storms on Friday. A trough of low pressure will swing through the Southeast U.S. and it will bring a cold front toward Louisiana. Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout the day. Some heavy rain can be expected, and we could pick up an inch of it. See the image to the right. High temperatures will be held down a little thanks to the rain, so they will only climb to around 80. Friday Night will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Lows will fall to the mid 60s.
Weekend Forecast: The heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue on Saturday as the front stalls over us,
and disturbances move along it. We could pick up 1 to 2 inches of rain between Friday and Saturday. Some areas could get even more rain, so flash flooding will be a possibility. High temperatures will be in the lower 80s and lows in the mid 60s with more rain Saturday Night.
It looks like Mother's Day will not be a total washout, but plan for some soggy weather in the morning. The front will finally push through Baton Rouge on Sunday and we will see the bulk of the rain coming to an end. Some lingering showers will be possible until Sunday Afternoon, and then we will become partly cloudy. We will not cool down much from this front with highs in the lower 80s and lows in the upper 50s Sunday Night.
Enjoy the nice weather once again, and have a great day! -Dave
