Short Term Forecast: We begin this Lundi Gras with scattered showers and thunderstorms as a cold front moves into Baton Rouge. Some could be strong with gusty winds and have heavy rain. Temperatures are in the 60s.
The cold front will stall just south of Baton Rouge this afternoon. This will allow the scattered showers and thunderstorms to continue. More heavy rain is possible and the NWS has continued the Flood Watch through Tuesday Afternoon. High temperatures will actually be in the upper 60s this morning and then they will slowly fall during the afternoon.
Week Ahead: The cold front will remain stalled on Mardi Gras Tuesday. Disturbances will move from west to east along the front, or right over South Louisiana. This means we will have more rain and a few thunderstorms all day long. Unfortunately, any Mardi Gras parades and festivities will be wet. High temperatures will be in the upper 60s.
Tuesday Night will see an area of low pressure develop over Texas and moves through Baton Rouge. This will allow the rain to taper off to just a few showers overnight. Lows will be in the mid 50s.
As the
low moves through town it will drag a cold front with it, and that will
pass through Baton Rouge on Wednesday Morning. This will keep a few
showers in for the first part of the day, but we will see the sun peak
out during the afternoon. It will become cooler with highs in the lower
60s. Wednesday Night will be mostly clear and colder with lows in the
upper 30s.High pressure will build over the Deep South on Valentine's Day Thursday and Friday. We will be sunny and cool with highs in the lower 60s and lows in the upper 30s to near 40 each day.
Weekend Outlook: Another cold front will move into Baton Rouge on Saturday. This one will not have a lot of moisture to work with, but there will be enough to set off a few showers with mostly cloudy skies. We will see a SIGNIFICANT drop in temperatures behind this front. Highs will only be in the lower 50s. Saturday Night will be clear and cold with a light freeze. Lows will be in the lower 30s.
Sunday will be sunny and cool with highs around 60 and lows in the upper 30s Sunday Night.
Take that umbrella with you and keep up with the weather today! -Dave
