...Flash Flood Watch Until Thursday Night...
Short Term Forecast: The heavy rain continues this morning! We picked up around 3-6 inches of rain since yesterday! This has caused some flash flooding around the viewing area and that will continue today! We start the day with more rain and temperatures in the 60s.
The
showers and thunderstorms will continue to move through Baton Rouge all
day. However, there may be some breaks in the rain from time to time.
Any rain that falls will be heavy and we could pick up an additional
2-4 inches of rain just today! This could cause more flash flooding.
Remember DO NOT drive through flooded roads because you may not be able
to see how deep the water is! This is why the NWS has issued the Flash Flood Watch until Thursday Night. All of this rain is coming from an upper-level low that is over Western Texas and a surface low that is over Southern Texas. Southerly flow ahead of it will push a warm front over Baton Rouge today and this will make is warmer, much more humid and allow for even more tropical moisture to come up from the Gulf of Mexico. Highs will be in the lower to mid 70s.
More showers and storms will be moving through town tonight. Some could be strong toward the morning as a squall line is expected to develop ahead of a cold front. Gusty winds will be the main threat. Lows will be in the upper 60s.
Rest of the Week: The line of storms and cold front will slowly push through Baton Rouge on Thursday. More heavy rain is expected with the threat for additional flash flooding. It will stay warm and humid with highs in the mid 70s. Thursday Night will finally see the rain starting to taper off. Lows will be in the upper 50s.
Friday is going to be a mainly dry day...thank goodness! We will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with only spotty showers as the cold front dissipates over Louisiana. It will be a warm and humid day with highs in the mid 70s. Friday Night will be partly to mostly cloudy with patchy fog. Lows will be in the mid 60s.
Weekend Outlook: We will stay warm and humid on Saturday as southerly winds persist over the city. It is going to be a mostly cloudy day with a few showers popping up. Highs will be in the upper 70s. Saturday Night will stay mostly cloudy with a few showers. Lows will be in the mid 60s.
Another cold front will be moving toward Louisiana on Sunday. Ahead of it we will be cloudy with scattered showers popping up. It will continue to be warm and humid with highs in the lower 70s and lows in the lower 60s.
Stay dry, DO NOT drive through flooded roadways and have a good day! -Dave
