Short Term Forecast: We finally have a morning where we are above freezing!! Mostly cloudy skies are greeting us on this Thursday Morning with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. I'd still take that coat with you as you head out the door.
The warming trend continues today thanks to the area of high pressure moving up the East Coast. This has taken the bitter cold air with it, and southeasterly winds will come back over Baton Rouge today. These winds will transport in some warmer Gulf air along with some extra moisture. This will give us a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures in the lower 60s.
It will not be as cold tonight thanks to those southeasterly winds. We will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with some patchy fog. Low temperatures will be in the upper 40s.
Friday will also be a warmer day with even more cloud cover thanks to a cold front that will move toward Baton Rouge. Most of the day will have mostly cloudy skies, but a few showers will start to pop-up during the evening as the front gets closer to town. It will be even warmer and more humid with highs in the upper 60s.
Friday Night is shaping up to be a soggy night thanks to the cold front moving through town. We will have scattered showers with a few thunderstorms. It does not look like we will get as much rain as I thought we would yesterday. Some storms could be strong with heavy rain. Low temperatures will be in the upper 50s.
A Warm Weekend: The cold front will move east of Baton Rouge by midday on Saturday. This will put an end to the rain, but we will not have a big drop in temperatures. Actually, we will have a pretty warm day with highs around 70. The cooler air will arrive on Saturday Night with mostly clear skies and lows in the lower 40s.
An area of high pressure will briefly sit over us on Sunday and that will make for a pretty day. We will have sunny skies, lower humidity and mild high temperatures in the mid 60s. Sunday Night will have a few clouds with lows in the mid 40s.
Enjoy the warmer weather and have a great day! -Dave
