...Freeze Warning from Midnight Tonight Until 9 AM Monday...
...Wind Chill Advisory from Midnight Tonight Until Noon Monday...
...Hard Freeze Warning from 6 PM Monday Until 9 AM Tuesday...
Arctic Blast: Get ready for some of the coldest temperatures since 2010 to affect Southeast Louisiana!! While we will be no where near as cold as our friends and family north of Louisiana, we will still be very cold for Louisiana. The cold front moved through town this evening and the cold air is now making its way here. We will start out in the mid 20s on Monday Morning with breezy northwest winds. This will give us a Wind Chill as cold as 11 degrees at times. BUNDLE UP the kids at the bus stop and adults need to bundle up too! High temperatures will only be in the 30s on Monday afternoon, so it will stay cold ALL DAY!
Then BITTER cold Arctic air will arrive on Monday Night. We will have low temperatures in the mid TEENS!! The record low on Tuesday is 20 set back in 1970 and we will very likely break that! Last time it was this cold in Baton Rouge was in January of 2010. We had 3 night of temperatures in the teens. It was even below 32 degrees for over 24 hours. This lead to some ice forming on the LSU and City Park Lakes! Not sure we will see ice again this time since the cold blast will not last very long.
Tuesday Night will remain clear, but it will not be as bitter cold. However, it will still be VERY COLD with lows in the lower to mid 20s.
Always remember the "P's": Be sure to wrap any exposed pipes outside of your home! This cold blast may be cold enough to burst some pipes - especially in areas that may not get above freezing on Monday. PLEASE have a warm place for any outdoor pets. Lastly, check on those people that may not have any heat.
Warming Up: Fortunately, this cold blast will not last very long - only Monday and Tuesday. The area of high pressure that will sit over us on Monday and Tuesday will move to the east of Louisiana on Wednesday. This will take the coldest air with it, and we will start to warm up with highs in the 50s. High temperatures will continue to climb into the 60s by the end of the week ahead of another cold front. We will also see some rain on Friday and Saturday.
Be sure to keep it tuned to WBRZ and all of its outlets as well as my Facebook and Twitter feeds. Links to them are on the right side of the screen. Stay warm and stay safe! -Dave
