Short Term Forecast: We have a partly cloudy start to the day as high clouds associated with Hurricane Ingrid in the Gulf and Manuel in the Pacific are streaming over the Southern U.S. We are warm and humid with temperatures in the 70s.
Get ready for a hot and humid afternoon across the Capital City as an area of high pressure sits over us. Some spotty showers and storms could pop-up with the heating of the day, but most of you will stay dry. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s.
Some clouds will linger over us tonight and it will be pretty muggy. Low temperatures will be in the lower 70s.
Week Ahead: The ridge of high pressure will start to move to the northeast on Tuesday, but we will stay pretty dry. Only a slight chance for a shower is possible with partly cloudy skies. It will be hot and more humid with highs in the lower 90s. Tuesday Night will have partly cloudy skies with lows in the lower 70s.
A better chance of rain will return on Wednesday and last through Friday thanks to the ridge being located northeast us Baton Rouge. This will help pump in Gulf Moisture over us. A trough of low pressure will slide across the Southeast U.S. and that will help to set off daily isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s.
Weekend Outlook: A cold front will be moving into the Southeast U.S. and making it to the Louisiana Coast this weekend. It will tap into the humid air mass over us and that will help to set off scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday with the heating of the day. High temperatures will be a little lower thanks to the rain as they only climb into the upper 80s. Each Night will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with muggy lows in the lower 70s.
Tropical Outlook: Tropical storm Ingrid made landfall along the Mexican Coast not far from Tampico, Mexico this morning. Winds are 45 mph, pressure is 998 mb and it is moving to the W at 7 mph. Ingrid will weaken and spread very heavy rain across Mexico as it turns to the southwest. Check out the web cam in Tampico, Mexico.
The remnants of Humberto has come back to life! It is now a tropical storm with 40 mph winds as it sits about 1200 miles SW of the Azores Islands. It is forecast to stay out at sea and could become a hurricane again.
Lastly, there is a tropical wave over the NW Caribbean that is moving to the west and it will move over the Yucatan Peninsula and then into the Bay of Campeche over the next few days. Conditions appear favorable for some development once it is in the Bay of Campeche later this week. NHC is giving it a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 5 days.
Have a great Monday! -Dave
