Short Term Forecast: We have partly to mostly cloudy skies across the Baton Rouge area with isolated showers and storms moving into town from the southeast. Some heavy rain can be expected with any shower that pops up over your homes. Temperatures are in the 70s.
Deeper tropical moisture continues to arrive today from the south. This is helping to set off the scattered showers and storms with the heating of the day with partly to mostly cloudy skies. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s.
Most of the rain will come to an end tonight and we will be left with some coastal showers. Baton Rouge will have some lingering clouds with low temperatures in the lower 70s.
A cold front will move closer to Baton Rouge from the northwest on Friday. It will be very warm and humid ahead of it, and the front will tap into that moisture. This will give us mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain. Highs will only get into the upper 80s. More rain is expected on Friday Night as the front moves even closer to town. Lows will be in the lower 70s.
Weekend Forecast: The cold front will move into Baton Rouge on Saturday and it will bring us a lot of rain. We will have scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms lasting throughout the day. This will make for some very soggy tailgating! Some of the storms could be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain. High temperatures will only get to the mid 80s thanks to the rain. If you are headed to the LSU vs Auburn game then you better plan for some lingering showers during the game. Saturday Night will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers as the front moves toward the Coast. Lows will be in the upper 60s.
The front will stall along the Coast on Sunday. It will still be close enough to set off a few showers in town. Otherwise, we will be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 80s. Sunday Night will be mostly clear with lows in the upper 60s.
Tropical Outlook: Tropical Depression Humberto is located about 1030 miles WSW of the Azores. It is losing its tropical characteristics and will likely become post-tropical later today as it moves to the north and gets absorbed into a cold front.
I'm still closely watching the area of low pressure (Invest 95L) in the Bay of Campeche. Hurricane Hunters are scheduled to investigate the system later today, if necessary. It is forecast to slowly move to the WNW over the next few days. It is also expected to become a tropical depression. NHC is giving it a high chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 5 days. I will keep an eye on it, but the forecast models show it moving into Mexico near the same place where Ingrid made landfall.
Lastly, there are some showers associated with a frontal boundary and a surface trough located near the Bahamas. An area of low pressure is forecast to form in this area during the next couple of days, but upper-level winds are not favorable for significant development. This low could form into some subtropical characteristics while it moves to the northeast into the Atlantic Ocean. NHC is giving this system a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 5 days.
