Short Term Forecast: It is a partly to mostly cloudy morning with showers and storms starting to pop-up across Southeast Louisiana. More rain will be developing throughout the morning, so plan on some rain for your commute. It is a much warmer and more humid morning with temperatures in the 70s.
The combination of a warm front, a low in the Gulf, a trough and a cold front will impact the weather in Baton Rouge this afternoon. This will lead us to getting scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Some of the rain could be heavy at times, and minor flash flooding will be possible. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s.
Those systems will be moving to the east of town tonight and we will see the rain coming to an end. It will become partly cloudy, but still stay muggy with lows in the lower 70s.
Week Ahead: An area of high pressure will build across the Southern Plains States and into the Southeast U.S. on Wednesday through Friday. This will bring us some less humid air for a few days, some cool night, but hot afternoons. Each day will be partly cloudy with highs in the lower 90s. Wednesday and Thursday Nights will be clear with lows in the upper 60s. Friday Night will be partly cloudy and more humid as southerly winds return to the state. Lows will be around 70.
Weekend Outlook: The forecast models show that the weekend will start out pretty quiet and dry, but it will not end that way. The ridge of high pressure will move to the northeast of Louisiana on Saturday. We will have return flow, or southerly winds over Baton Rouge. This will make it partly cloudy and more humid with only a spotty shower possible. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s.
Another cold front will move toward the state on Sunday. Ahead of it we will be very warm and humid with isolated showers and storms popping up. The front will not get into town until early next week. Highs will be in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s on Sunday Night.
Tropical Outlook: On this 8th Anniversary of Hurricane Rita's Landfall at Sabine Pass, LA/TX, I'm watching an area of showers and storms in the Southern Caribbean. Forecast models are hinting at some possible development there over the next few days. Otherwise, all other areas of the tropics are quiet, and they are expected to stay that way through Wednesday.
