As of 4 PM this afternoon, Hurricane Hunters have found that Tropical Storm Ingrid has strengthened into a hurricane with 75 mph winds. It becomes the 2nd hurricane of the 2013 season. The hurricane has formed an eye on visible satellite. It is sitting over warm waters with little wind shear and that helped it to get stronger.
Hurricane Ingrid is moving to the north at 7 mph, but will turn to the northwest then west on Sunday. This means Ingrid will make a landfall near Tampico, Mexico on Monday Afternoon. The hurricane is forecast to get a little stronger with winds around 85 mph by landfall. However, if the speed slows down, then the hurricane could get stronger and may have a different location for landfall. This will have to be watched over the next 2 days.
Ingrid is not going to impact Louisiana directly, but some tropical moisture could stream north toward Louisiana. This would help to increase the chance of rain for us in Baton Rouge next week.
Be sure to keep it tuned to WBRZ, the WBRZ Weather Channel and my Facebook/Twitter feeds to additional information. -Dave
