Short Term Forecast: We have a pleasant morning with partly cloudy skies and some patchy fog. Temperatures are in the 70s.
Get ready for a soggy afternoon! Louisiana is sitting between to areas of high pressure. This causes a weakness to develop over us, and that leads to rain. Additionally, there is a weak area of upper-level low pressure associated with an easterly wave/tropical wave moving west across the Northern Gulf of Mexico. When you combine all of those factors with daytime heating you get scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms will have heavy rain too. High temperatures will be around 90 before the rain starts.
The showers and storms will last through the evening before tapering off by 10 PM. Then we will be left with mostly cloudy skies and low temperatures in the lower to mid 70s.
Rest of the Week: We will return to a more typical Summer day as the areas of high pressure stay in place on Thursday and Friday. This will give us partly cloudy skies with scattered afternoon storms popping up. Highs will be in the lower 90s. Each night will have some clouds and it will be muggy with lows in the lower to mid 70s.
Weekend Forecast: More of the same Summer-time weather can be expected on Saturday and Sunday. However, another tropical wave could move across the Northern Gulf, and this may help to set off some storms too. Otherwise, it will be hot and humid with partly cloudy skies and scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the mid 70s each day.
Tropical Outlook: There are a few tropical waves in the Gulf, Caribbean and Atlantic that are moving to the west. None of these waves are expected to develop into a tropical system.
Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics are quiet and they will stay that way through Thursday.
Take the umbrella with you and have a great day! -Dave
