Short Term Forecast: After a very active night with part 1 of severe weather, we start this Monday with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. Otherwise, it is mostly cloudy and mild with temperatures in the 60s.
A warm front will move northward from the Louisiana Coast through Baton Rouge and into Mississippi by the early afternoon, and this will be part 2 of severe weather. This will allow very warm and humid air to come up from the Gulf of Mexico, and it will be breezy with some sunshine peaking out. All of this will make the atmosphere very unstable, and that will allow scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms to develop again all afternoon. Some of them are expected to be strong to severe at times! SPC has put all of Louisiana in a Slight Risk for severe weather today. The threats will be large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes. Click on the map to the right to read more about the severe weather threat. We will also have more heavy rain across Southeast Louisiana. A Flash Flood Watch remain in effect for parts of the area. Some areas picked up 2-3" of rain overnight and there is some flooding already occurring. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s.
The showers and storms will continue this evening ahead and along a squall-line that will move into Baton Rouge. This line will be associated with a cold front, and this will be part 3 of the severe weather. These storms could also be severe at times with damaging winds and a few tornadoes. Temperatures will remain in the 70s.
Once the cold front moves through this evening the storms will come to an end. We will have partly to mostly cloudy skies with a few sprinkles overnight. It will turn much cooler with lows in the lower 40s.
Week Ahead: High pressure will briefly move over us on Tuesday. This will make it mostly sunny and cool with highs in the lower 60s. Tuesday Night will be clear and chilly with lows in the lower 40s.
A weak disturbance and cold front will move through Baton Rouge on Wednesday. This will be a dry front with only partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the upper 60s. Wednesday Night will be clear and cold with lows in the lower 40s.
Pleasant weather with sunny skies is expected on Thursday with highs in the lower 60s and lows in the upper 30s.
Another front and disturbance will move through town on Friday. This one will also be dry, but it will have MUCH COLDER air behind it. High temperatures will only be in the upper 50s. Friday Night will be clear with a light freeze and lows in the lower 30s.
Weekend Outlook: We will stay much cooler all weekend! High pressure will sit over the Southeast U.S. and that keeps it sunny. High temperatures will only be in the lower to mid 50s. Low temperatures will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Brrr!! We will likely have a light to possibly a hard freeze! Be prepared now to bring in any plants and pets!!
