Short Term Forecast: The cold front has moved to the east of Baton Rouge, but we will still have some lingering showers and clouds over us this morning. Temperatures are starting out in the 50s.
We will not warm up much today thanks to the clouds and showers streaming up from the southwest for much of the afternoon. The rain will be light and more of a nuisance than anything else. High temperatures will struggle to get out of the mid 50s.
The clouds will finally move out of Baton Rouge tonight and we will become mostly clear. It will also be much colder with lows in the upper 30s.
River Flooding: Area rivers are continuing to rise from all of the rain we had the last few days. Moderate flooding is expected in most locations across the Amite, Comite, Tickfaw and Tangipahoa. River Flood Warning are up for all the rivers. Most of them will crest on Friday and Saturday. If you experienced flooding in January, then you need to expect to see flooding again with this event. Some places may actually have higher crest levels this time! For the latest river stages and forecast crests please click here.
Rest of the Week: High pressure builds across the Southeast U.S. on Thursday and Friday. We will get to see the sunshine each day and it will be a little warmer. Highs will be in the lower to mid 60s each day. Clear skies are on tap Thursday Night with lows in the lower 40s. A clipper system, or fast-moving cold front, will sweep across the state on Friday Night. This will give us partly cloudy skies with colder lows in the upper 30s.
Weekend Outlook: That clipper system will also keep the temperatures WAY down on Saturday as it sweeps past Baton Rouge. We will be partly cloudy and could have a sprinkle or two of rain. High temperatures will only be in the upper 50s. Saturday Night will be clear and cold with lows in the mid 30s.
High pressure will briefly sit over us on Sunday and that will make it sunny. It will also warm up a little with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the mid 40s on Sunday Night.
Keep that umbrella and jacket with you today. Have a good one! -Dave
