Short Term Forecast: It will be a clear and chilly evening across the Capital City with temperatures falling from the 50s into the 40s.
Get ready for some very cold temperatures tonight! The skies will be clear and the winds will be calm. This will allow the mercury to drop into the lower 30s. A light freeze is expected, so be sure to cover or bring in any plants! Also, have a warm place for your outdoor pets too!
Weekend Forecast: It will be a cold start to Saturday, but we will start to warm up. The area of high pressure will move right over Baton Rouge and that will give us plenty of sunshine. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s. Saturday Night will be mostly clear and not as chilly with lows in the mid 40s.
The weather will start to change on Sunday as southerly winds will be over the state. This will keep us warm and it will become partly to mostly cloudy. A spotty shower is also possible. Highs will be in the upper 60s. Sunday Night will be mostly cloudy with isolated showers moving into town ahead of a cold front. Lows will be in the upper 50s.
Christmas Eve and Day: One cold front will move through on Monday and stall along this coast. This will give us cloud skies with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. It will stay warm with highs in the lower 70s. Monday Night will be mostly cloudy with lingering showers and a few storms. Lows will be in the mid 50s.
The weather does not look good on Christmas Day. The cold front along the coast will retreat back to the north as a warm front. At the same time, an area of low pressure will form over South Texas and move northeast across Northern Louisiana. This will put Baton Rouge in a warm and unstable environment as another cold front moves out of Texas across Louisiana. We will have another round of showers & thunderstorms. Some of these could be strong to severe! I will watch this closely the next few days, so stay tuned for updates. Highs will be in the lower 70s. Christmas Night will continue to have some showers and potentially strong/severe thunderstorms as the cold front moves through Baton Rouge. Lows will turn colder as they fall into the upper 40s.
Rest of Next Week: Wednesday will start out stormy, but then the sun will come out by the afternoon. It will be much cooler with highs in the upper 50s. Wednesday Night will be clear and cold. Lows will drop into the mid 30s.
High pressure will build across the SE US on Thursday and Friday. This will make it mostly sunny to partly cloudy each day. We will remain cool with highs in the mid 50s on Thursday and low 60s on Friday. Lows will be in the lower to mid 40s each night.
Bundle up tonight and have a great weekend! -Dave
