Short Term Forecast: We will be warm and breezy this evening with mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will be falling out of the 70s into the 60s.
A strong cold front will race across Texas and into Louisiana tonight. There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms ahead and along the cold front. Some of these storms could be strong to severe overnight. SPC has us in a Slight Risk for severe weather. The main threats would be damaging winds and a few tornadoes. It is likely that a broken squall line of thunderstorms will move through along the cold front and that is where we could get some severe weather. Additionally, any storms that form ahead of the line could also become strong to severe. Needless to say, I will be watching these for you. Low temperatures will be pretty mild as they only fall to the lower 60s.
Rest of the Week: The cold front will move through Baton Rouge on Thursday Morning. As mentioned above, some of the storms could be strong to severe during the morning commute. Fortunately, the threat is low, but it is still there. Once the cold front passes through town, the rain will come to an end and the temperatures will drop quickly! We could see a 15-20 degree drop with some windy conditions! High temperatures will occur in the morning in the lower 60s. Then they will fall to around 50 by 5 PM. Brrr! Make sure to take your umbrella and warm coat with you to work and school!
Thursday Night will become clear and the winds will die down. Low temperatures will drop to 32 in the city and around 30 north and east of town. This means we will have a light freeze! Be sure to bring in or cover any plants. The freeze could last for 2-6+ hours.
Friday is going to be a gorgeous day with sunny skies as an area of high pressure sits over Louisiana. However, it will be a chilly day with high temperatures only getting up to the upper 50s. Friday Night will be clear and very cold with lows in the lower 30s. A light freeze can be expected again.
Weekend Outlook: The area of high pressure will move to the east of Louisiana on Saturday and Sunday. This will shift the winds from the north to the southeast and we will become a little warmer. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the lower 40s. Sunday will be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the mid 50s.
Stay alert to changing weather tonight and on Thursday Morning! -Dave
