Short Term Forecast: We have a chilly start to the day around the Baton Rouge area this morning! You better bundle up since the temperatures are in the lower 40s under mostly clear skies.
You will not need that coat this afternoon as some warmer temperatures are headed our way. The area of high pressure that has been sitting over us the last few days has moved to the east of Louisiana. This will shift the winds from the north to the southeast and that will pump up warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico. It will also increase the moisture in the atmosphere, so we will see some clouds this afternoon. Therefore, we will be mostly sunny and warmer with high temperatures in the mid 70s.
It is not going to be as cold tonight thanks to those southerly winds. We will be mostly clear, but patchy fog is expected during the morning. Low temperatures will be in the lower to mid 50s.
Weekend Forecast: The warm air sticks around all weekend. We will be partly cloudy, warm and more humid on Saturday with highs in the upper 70s. Saturday Evening will be great for the LSU vs Mississippi State game with mostly clear skies and temperatures around 70 at the 6 PM kickoff. Saturday Night will be mostly clear with patchy dense fog developing. Lows will be near 60.
Sunday will also be a warm one, but we could see a spotty shower or two late in the day as a cold front moves toward Louisiana. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy, warm and humid with high temperatures around 80. Sunday Night will be mostly cloudy with a chance of a shower. Lows will be in the mid 60s.
Next Week Outlook: A strong cold front will move into and through Baton Rouge on Monday. It will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could become strong with gusty winds and hail. High temperatures will be reached early in the day before the front moves through. We should get to around 70. Monday Night will become mostly clear and much colder. Lows will fall to the lower 40s.
An area of high pressure will build over the Deep South on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will have plenty of sunshine, but it will be much cooler. Highs will be in the lower to mid 60s and lows will be in the lower 40s.
The high pressure moves east of Louisiana on Thursday and Friday. This will shift the winds from the north to the south and bring back warmer temperatures and moisture. We will be partly cloudy on Thursday with highs in the lower 70s and lows in the lower 50s.
Friday will be partly cloudy and warmer with a chance of a shower as another cold front moves toward our area. Highs will be in the mid 70s.
Tropical Outlook: There is a weak surface trough of low pressure interacting with a low pressure system that extends up to 900 miles WNW of the Cape Verde Islands. Showers and thunderstorms are pretty weak with it right now. NHC is giving it a low chance for development during the next 48 hours as it drifts WNW.
Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics are quiet and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through the weekend.
Bundle up this morning and enjoy the warmer weather this weekend. Have a good one! -Dave
