Short Term Forecast: Scattered showers and thunderstorm are moving across the Baton Rouge area this morning ahead and along a cold front. Some of the storms could be strong at times with gusty winds, heavy rain and some hail. Otherwise, it is mostly cloudy and warm with temperatures in the 60s.
The thunderstorms will come to an end this afternoon as the cold front moves through Baton Rouge. Behind the front we will have mostly cloudy skies with a few spotty showers. High temperatures in the mid 60s will actually occur this morning and then they will slowly fall into the 50s behind the front this afternoon.
We will become mostly clear tonight and it will turn much colder. Low temperatures will be in the lower 40s.
Week Ahead: An area of high pressure in the upper-levels of the atmosphere will build over the Southeast U.S. behind the front on Wednesday and Thursday. This will make it sunny, but not much cooler. Wednesday will have a high in the mid 60s and lows in the lower 40s. Some areas north and east of Baton Rouge as well as South Mississippi could have some upper 30s showing up. Thursday will become warmer with a high around 70 and lows near 50.
The weather will start to change a little as we head into Friday through the weekend. This is due to a weak trough of low pressure moving into the Southeast U.S. As it moves over Baton Rouge we will have an increase in moisture along with our temperatures going back up. Friday will have partly cloudy skies with a few showers possible. Highs will be in the lower 70s and lows in the mid 50s with mostly cloudy skies and some fog at night.
Weekend Outlook: The trough will move through on Saturday and we will continue to have partly to mostly cloudy skies with a few showers. It will stay warm with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 50s.
Some nicer weather is on tap for Sunday with partly cloudy skies. Highs will still be warm as they climb into the mid 70s and lows in the mid to upper 50s with a few clouds.
Tropical Outlook: 4 days left in the 2012 Hurricane Season and the tropics are still quiet. They will stay that way through Wednesday.
Take your umbrella with you and have a nice day! -Dave
