Rain and Some Strong Storms Possible On This Lundi Gras

It was a beautiful weekend, but things will be going downhill today.  A cold front is stalled NW of our area and breezy SE winds are ushering in more moisture over us today.  This will lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.  Some of the storms could be strong to severe along and north of I-12.  The Storm Prediction Center has that area and into Southern Mississippi in a Marginal Risk for severe weather.  The threats would be large hail and damaging winds.  South of the lake we are not expected to see as strong of storms, but they could still produce heavy rain and gusty winds.  Plan for rain if you are headed to any parades today!  Highs will be back in the upper 70s.   This evening will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and storms with temperatures in the 70s around 6 PM.  Again, plan for rain for the parades.  Overnight, will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance for rain and some patchy fog....

Warm Today, But It Turns Much Cooler This Weekend

We will have a warm day with mostly cloudy skies today as southerly winds remain over the city.  There is a slight chance for a shower this afternoon, but most of you will stay dry.  Highs will be around 80°, and that is near the record of 83° set back in 2011.   This evening will be very nice again for the parades.  We will be mostly cloudy and mild with temperatures in the 70s.  There will be a slight chance for a shower especially toward the end of the parades as a cold front moves toward us.  The cold front will move through overnight with spotty showers until 2 AM.  Then it will become clear, cooler and breezy.  Lows will be in the 50s.  Beautiful weather is expected all weekend, and this will make for some perfect parade weather.  Saturday will be sunny, breezy and much cooler with highs in the upper 60s.  Saturday Evening will be clear and cool with temperatures in the 50s, so grab a coat if you are headed to the...

UPDATED: Mardi Gras Parade Forecast

We will still have some fantastic weather for the Mardi Gras Parades this evening and tomorrow evening. It will be a tad cool, so you may want a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket.     A cold front will move through early on Saturday Morning. This will make it MUCH COOLER for the weekend, but the forecast remains dry for the parades. You may want a jacket for the parades, especially on Saturday Evening.  Get out and enjoy this great weather through the weekend!  Unfortunately, this wonderful weather doesn't last forever.  Rain and storms return on Lundi Gras as another cold front stalls over us, but it will be mild for the parades.  That cold front retreats back to the north on Mardi Gras, and that will take much of the rain with it.  It will be mostly cloudy and warm for Mardi Gras Day.  Make sure you Download the 2017 WWL-TV Mardi Gras Parade Tracker App to follow the parades, get the latest weather and more. It's free and av...

Warm Temperatures Today and Friday Make For Great Mardi Gras Parades

The cold front will move through on Friday Night with spotty showers and a few thunderstorms.  Lows will be in the 50s on both sides of the lake. High pressure will build over us all weekend, and that means we will have some...

Fortunately, it looks like any showers will arrive after the parades roll on Friday and before the roll on Saturday.  Then it will be mostly sunny, breezy and much cooler on Saturday. Sunday will be partly cloudy and still cool.  Highs will be in the upper 60s each day.   The early outlook for Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras has us much warmer than the past few years.  We will be mostly cloudy and have a sli...

Spring-like Warmth Today, But Heavy Rain Returns Tonight

DENSE FOG ADVISORY until 9 a.m. Monday for areas north and west of the lake. An upper-level low over Texas is headed to the Louisiana Coast later today, and that will send plenty of Gulf Moisture over us today.  After the fog dissipates, we will have a mostly cloudy and very mild afternoon with a slight chance for a shower.  Highs will be in the upper 70s.   A surface area of low pressure will form along the Texas Coast tonight along with a trough of low pressure.  Together, they will move along the Louisiana Coast.  This will send us scattered to numerous showers with a few thunderstorms after midnight.  Some of the rain will be heavy at times and will continue into Tuesday Morning.  Lows will be in the lower 60s.   Tuesday will start out with the rain and storms.  The latest forecast models show the rain continuing until Noon. Then we will be mostly cloudy with just a slight chance for a shower through Tuesday Evening.  Ra...

Rain Tonight, But The Weekend Is Dry

Clouds will be on the increase all day as an area of low pressure develops along the SE Texas Coast.  This low will headed toward the Louisiana Coast by tonight.  We will have spotty showers moving into town later this afternoon and into the evening hours.  This means we will now see some rain for the Mardi Gras Parades this evening, so bring your rain gear.  Highs will be in the upper 60s today.   Scattered to numerous showers and a few thunderstorms will move through the region tonight as the low moves along our coast.  Some of the rain could be heavy at times, but flooding is not a concern.  Lows will be in the 50s.  There will still be a few showers lingering over the area when you wake up on Saturday Morning, but they will be ending as the low move east of Louisiana.  Then we will have a mix of sun and clouds with only a slight chance for a shower during the day as an area of high pressure builds toward us.  This will mean ...

An upper-level low will move out of Texas during the day on Friday and it will move across the Northern Gulf Coast Friday Night.  We will see clouds increasing through Friday Morning with cloudy skies by the afternoon. A few showers will start to move over us on Friday Evening, so keep that in mind if you are headed to any Mardi Gras Parades.  We will be warmer with highs in the upper 60s.   The Gulf Low will move across the Louisiana Coast on Friday Night.  This will spread scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region with some heavy rain from New Orleans to the Coast.  The heaviest rain will arrive ove...

Much Cooler & Brisk Today

The cold front is now east of Louisiana.  Colder and breezy weather is in store for us today with mostly cloudy skies.  Highs will be around 60°, but it will feel cooler with the winds.  Tonight will become clear and colder.  Lows north of the lake will be in the mid  30s  with some frost, so protect plants, pets and people.  South of the lake we will be in the mid 40s.   High pressure will build over us on Thursday, and this will lead to plenty of sunshine.  It will be a few degrees warmer with highs in the mid 60s.  Thursday Night will not be as chilly with lows in the 40s on both sides of the lake.  Our weather will start to change on Friday.  High pressure will be east of Louisiana, so southerly winds will return.  This will warm us back up with partly to mostly cloudy skies, and we could see a stray shower or two.  Highs will be in the upper 60s.  A disturbance/wave aloft will move across the No...

Strong to Severe Storms Possible This Evening

Happy Valentine's Day It is a cool start to this Valentine's Day, but we will have a big warm-up today.  A warm front will move up from the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon.  This will increase the temperatures and also the humidity.  We will be mostly cloudy with a few showers possible.  Highs will be in the upper 70s.   A strong cold front will move in from the west this evening along with an area of low pressure.  Together, these two systems will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Some of the storms could be strong to severe.  The best timing is between 8 PM and 1 AM.  SPC has put most of the area in a Marginal Risk for severe weather, with a Slight Risk along the far SE LA Coast.  The storms could contain damaging winds and a few tornadoes.  However, the greatest chance for severe weather looks to be along the immediate coast. Needless to say, if you are headed out to a Valentine's Day Dinner, keep an eye on the...

Cooler Today With Strong Storms Possible Tuesday Night

A cold front will move across the area this morning and it will bring us cooler temperatures today.  We will have a mix of sun and clouds today with highs in the upper 60s to around 70°.  Tonight will be much colder with partly cloudy skies.  Lows will be in the upper 40s north and mid 50s south of the lake. The weather will quickly start to change on Tuesday and there is a chance for strong to severe storms Late Tuesday Evening into Early Wednesday Morning.  We will have more southerly winds return during the day, and they will help to warm us back up.  At the same time, an area of low pressure will develop over Eastern Texas.  This low will head NE toward Louisiana.  A warm front will move up from the SW over us, and this will be the reason for the warmer air.  It will be more humid too, and that will allow the atmosphere to become unstable.  It will be mostly cloudy with just a slight chance for a shower during the day.  Highs wi...

Near Record Highs This Weekend, Storms Return on Wednesday

Strong to Severe Storms Likely Today

***TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 2 PM** Severe storms are already ongoing across the Baton Rouge area with a report of a funnel cloud in Maringouin, LA earlier this morning. These storms are moving NE and could move into areas north of the lake through the morning and then across the Metro New Orleans area late morning through early afternoon. Please stay weather aware today! An upper level trough will move through today, and this will produce some warm air aloft over cooler air at the surface.  This will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Some of the storms could be strong to severe with large hail being the main threat.  However, a tornado can't be ruled out, but that best chance for tornadoes will be in South Mississippi to the Coast.  SPC has areas from I-10 north in an  Enhanced Risk , and this includes New Orleans, the Northshore and the MS Coast.  Otherwise, we will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 70s.  Tonight will be mostly cloud...
