Note: I'm filling in for Pat Shingleton in the evening hours, so my weather blog will be updated in the evening verses the morning.
Short Term Forecast: We will have another pleasant night across the Capital City. It will not be as cold as more southerly winds replace the cold northerly winds. Clouds will start to pop-up overnight along with some patchy fog. Low temperatures will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s.
The area of high pressure that was sitting over us the last few days will be east of Louisiana on Thursday. This is why we will have southerly winds, or return flow, over Baton Rouge. These winds will pump in the warm and more humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. That will give us partly to mostly cloudy skies with a few sprinkles. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 70s.
Thursday Night will be mostly cloudy with a few showers popping up. It will be warm and muggy with low temperatures in the lower 60s along with some fog.
Friday will continue to be warm and humid as a cold front moves closer to Louisiana from Texas/Southern Plains. Scattered showers will develop throughout the day, so plan to see some rain. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s. Friday Night will be mostly cloudy with a few showers. It will stay warm and muggy with lows in the mid 60s.
Weekend Forecast/Stormy Weather: The cold front will move into Louisiana on Saturday and it will tap in to the warm air mass over us. This will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon and they will continue into the night. Some of the storms could be strong to possibly severe! We will have a strong wind coming out of the south at the surface and strong winds aloft. Combine that with the warm and humid air mass over us, and that will make for some unstable air. These storms could produce damaging winds with heavy rain. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s.
Saturday Night will have more showers and thunderstorms. Some could still be strong to severe, so I will keep a close eye on them. Lows will be in the mid 60s.
The cold front will finally push through Baton Rouge on Sunday. We will start the day with more rain and some storms. Then the rain will slowly come to an end by the afternoon as the cold front will be east of Louisiana. We will be left with mostly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the lower 70s, but the temperatures will likely fall into the evening hours. Sunday Night will be partly to mostly cloudy with much colder low temperatures in the lower 40s.
Enjoy the warm weather. Have a good night! -Dave
