...Freeze Warning From 3 AM to 9 AM Wednesday...
Short Term Forecast: We have a pretty quiet start to this Tuesday Morning. The skies are mostly clear and temperatures are in the 50s. However, significant changes are coming to our weather today...
A strong trough of low pressure will send a strong cold front into and through Baton Rouge this morning. It will not have any moisture to work with, so all we will see from it will be partly cloudy skies. Once it moves through the winds will really start to kick up coming out of the north at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts. High temperatures will be in the lower 70s and then they will tumble through the late afternoon into tonight.
Strong cold air advection will build over Baton Rouge tonight as an area of high pressure moves over us from the north. This will make it VERY COLD! We will be clear with low temperatures in the lower 30s in the city. Areas north and east of downtown will be even colder. Southern Mississippi may be in the upper 20s, the Felicianas and areas just north of I-12 closer to 30.
The NWS has issued a Freeze Warning for much of the WBRZ Viewing area. Freezing temperatures can be expected to last 3 to 6 hours. This would kill any tender vegetation. Be sure to bring in any plants or cover them up tonight. Also have a warm place for any pets, and check on those people who may not have heat.
It will also still be breezy, so the wind chill temperatures will be around 15° to 25° around Baton Rouge. Be sure to bundle up tomorrow morning!
Week Ahead: The area of high pressure will sit over us on Wednesday and Thursday. This will keep it pretty chilly tomorrow with sunny skies and high temperatures only in the mid 50s. Wednesday Night will be clear and still very cold. I'm expecting another light freeze, but we will have more frost since the winds will be calm. Lows will be in the lower 30s in the city and near 30 north and east of town. Once again be sure to bring in or cover any plants and have a warm place for pets.
Thursday will be a beautiful day with sunny skies and it will be a little warmer. Highs will be in the lower 60s. Thursday Night will not be as cold with lows in the lower 50s.
The weather will start to change again on Friday. The area of high pressure will move off to the east of Louisiana and this will usher in warmer and more humid air. At the same time, a series of disturbances are forecast to move up from the Gulf of Mexico over Louisiana. They will set off scattered showers with mostly cloudy skies. High temperatures will be in the lower 70s. Friday Night will be mostly cloudy with spotty showers. It will be mild with lows near 60.
Weekend Outlook: More disturbances, or short waves, will move across Baton Rouge this weekend. This will keep it mostly cloudy with isolated to scattered showers on Saturday and Sunday. A few thunderstorms are possible too. It will be warmer and more humid with highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the lower 60s.
Tropical Outlook: All areas of the tropics are still quiet, and it will stay that way through Wednesday.
Get ready for the windy and much colder weather!! Have a great day! -Dave
