The Storm Prediction Center has issued a NEW Tornado Watch until 7:00 PM for the WBRZ Viewing area.
Severe Weather Set-Up: A strong trough of low pressure will send a cold front toward Baton Rouge today from the west. We will be breezy, very warm and humid ahead of it. This will make it very unstable and scattered showers and storms will develop with the heating of the day. Some of the storms could become strong to severe with the potential for a few tornadoes today. Damaging winds are also likely with any storm that develops. Downburst winds could be around 60+ mph at times.
Timing: The main portion of the storms will move into Baton Rouge around 3:00 PM and it will continue until 11:00 PM. SPC has put all of the Baton Rouge area in a Slight Risk for severe weather today.
On top of the threat for severe weather, we will also have to deal with some heavy rain. Rainfall totals could be around 1 to 3 inches by Friday Morning. This may cause some flash flooding, but no major river flooding is expected since the ground has been dry and the river levels are very low.
Trick-or-Treat Forecast: It looks like the Trick-or-Treat weather will be quite stormy according to the forecast models. If there are storms in your town between 6 and 8 PM please stay indoors and not venture out trick-or-treating. It will not be safe in the storms!!
Keep it tuned to WBRZ, WBRZ Weather Channel, WBRZ.com and our Facebook/Twitter feeds for additional updates and any warnings today. -Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum
