Invest 93L has been upgraded to Tropical Depression #10 in the Southern Gulf of Mexico, or Bay of Campeche, thanks to Hurricane Hunter and satellite data. It has developed a well-defined center and upper-level winds are favorable for additional development.
Steering currents are low, so TD 10 is not expected to move much over the next 2-3 days and it will have a slow and erratic movement. This will allow the depression to get stronger and is forecast to become a tropical storm on Friday. It would get the name Ingrid. The clockwise flow around the ridge of high pressure, which will build over the Southern U.S., will steer the system westward into Mexico. The forecast is for a landfall near Tampico, Mexico next Monday with 60 mph winds.
This system will not have a direct impact on Louisiana. However, it will lead to some high seas and an increased chance of rain around Baton Rouge next week.
Be sure to keep it tuned to WBRZ, the WBRZ Weather Channel and my Facebook/Twitter feeds to additional updates. -Dave
