It was on this date late year that Hurricane Isaac made landfall in Southeast Louisiana. It was a very slow-moving hurricane that dumped a ton of rain over the state and caused a significant storm surge that flooded parts of La Place, Ascension Parish and Lower Livingston Parish. The weather in Baton Rouge was very rainy with rainfall totals ranging from 5-15". This caused some flooding along local rivers, but wind damage was minimal.
Also, 8 years ago today Hurricane Katrina made landfall near Pass Christian, MS with a 27.8 ft. storm surge! Of course we all remember what happened to New Orleans and the clean up continues today in some parts of the city. We had some damage across the Baton Rouge area with some people without power for weeks! We didn't get a lot of rain since we were on the western-side of the eye, or the better side. Plenty of thoughts go out to all of those that were killed on this day.
Needless to say, August 29th is not a good day in Louisiana Weather History!! Hopefully we do not have any more storms make landfall on this date.
