Short Term Forecast: We have a very pleasant morning in Baton Rouge with cool temperatures in the 60s under clear skies. Areas closer to the coast are in the 70s. By the way...it is warmer in Northern Indiana with morning temperatures in the mid 70s according to my meteorologist buddy Tom Coomes!! This is some crazy weather!
The ridge of high pressure will remain over us today. That means we will have more partly cloudy and dry weather. Plus we will start to become hotter with high temperatures in the lower 90s.
You can expect some comfortable weather tonight with clear skies and lower humidity. Low temperatures will be in the upper 60s.
Rest of the Week: That ridge of high pressure will stay over us on Thursday and Friday. Each day will be partly cloudy and hot with highs in the lower to mid 90s. Each night will be mostly clear, but not as cool with lows in the lower 70s.
Weekend Outlook: More dry weather is on tap on Saturday, but the ridge is expected to break down a little. A spotty shower will be possible mainly east of Baton Rouge. We will be partly cloudy and staying hot with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
There will be a slightly better chance of a shower or storm on Sunday with the eastern edge of the ridge moving closer to Baton Rouge. It is possible a weak disturbance may rotate down the eastern-edge of the ridge, and that will help to set off a few showers too. Highs will be in the lower 90s and lows in the mid 70s on Sunday Night.
Tropical Outlook: I'm watching a mid and upper-level low over Southern Florida and the Florida Straits. It is drifting to the northwest and producing showers and storms. I'm not expecting this to develop into anything at this time since there is not a surface circulation - you need that for it to become a tropical system. NHC agrees and says there is a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.
There is a tropical wave located halfway between the Cape Verde Islands and the Windward Islands. Conditions appear favorable for some development of this disturbance by early next week as it approaches the Lesser Antilles. NHC is giving it a low chance during the next 48 hours, but a medium chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 5 days as it moves to the west at 10 to 15 mph.
Lastly, there is another tropical wave about to move off the Coast of Africa. An area of low pressure could form after it moves off the coast. Conditions appear favorable for some development of the low while it moves to the NW at 10 to 15 mph. There is a low chance of development in the next 48 hours, but a medium chance of it becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 5 days.
Elsewhere...the tropics are quiet and they will stay that way through Thursday.
Enjoy the cooler mornings and have a great day! -Dave
