Short Term Forecast: Good Friday Afternoon! Whew...it sure is HOT! Right now it is 94° with a heat index of 105° in Baton Rouge. We have some isolated showers & t'storms popping up along a cold front & sea breeze. Some of the storms could become strong to possibly severe with gusty winds & heavy rain. Temperatures will stay in the lower to mid 90s and the heat index 100° to 110°. Please be sure to drink plenty of water and try to stay in the A/C today!
The storms will end tonight and we will be left with mainly clear skies. It will be a few degrees "cooler" with lows in the lower 70s vs. upper 70s this morning.
Father's Day Weekend: An area of high pressure will sit over us on Saturday and this will give us partly cloudy skies with only one or two pop-up storms. It will be very hot & humid with highs in the mid 90s. The heat index will still be around 105° at times!
Sunday, Father's Day, will still be very hot and humid, but we will have a little better chance of some isolated storms popping up. This is thanks to moisture returning in the upper-levels of the atmosphere. We will have highs in the mid 90s with the heat index around 105°.
Next Week Outlook: Monday is shaping up to be a pretty dry day with only a storm or two possible, but it will be hot with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
More unsettled weather is expected Tuesday through Friday. Each day will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and storms as a weak trough of low pressure and cold front move toward Louisiana. They won't get to Baton Rouge, but will be close enough to set off some storms. This will bring a little relief to the heat with daily highs in the lower 90s and lows in the lower 70s.
Tropical Outlook: All is quiet in the tropics, and it will stay that way through the weekend. Forecast models are hinting at a tropical wave moving out of the Caribbean into the Bay of Campeche late next week, but it does not look like it will impact Louisiana.
I hope all the Dads out there, including mine, have a great Father's Day Weekend! -Dave
