Short Term Forecast: We start this Wednesday with plenty of rain and storms moving through the Baton Rouge area. Some could be strong with gusty winds, heavy rain, hail and frequent lightning strikes. Temperatures are in the 70s ahead of the rain, but will fall into the 60s where it is raining.
After the first batch of rain this morning, we will see a break before the next batch comes in for this afternoon. The forecast models are way off on the timing of the rain and storms today, so the forecast will be a little tricky this afternoon. Based off of current radar trends, I'm going to say we will see the redevelopment of the rain by the afternoon. However, if some drier air, which is currently over Texas, gets here sooner, then our chance for rain will be decreased. All of this rain is due to a trough of low pressure and a disturbance that is moving north of Louisiana. We will see some sunshine peaking through the clouds and that will help to make the atmosphere more unstable. This will lead to additional scattered showers and storms this afternoon. A few could be strong with gusty winds and heavy rain. Highs temperatures will be in the upper 80s.
The rain will come to an end later this evening and we will be mostly cloudy tonight. It will stay warm and muggy with lows in the lower 70s.
Rest of the Week: The trough will be moving northeast of Louisiana on Thursday, but it will be close enough to set off isolated showers and storms. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and hot with highs around 90. Thursday Night will be mostly cloudy and steamy. Lows will be in the upper 60s.
Expect another hot day on Friday with partly cloudy skies and we will see a few afternoon showers and storms pop-up. However, the overall coverage of rain will be low. A weak cold front will swing through the state and this will bring in some drier air late. Highs will be around 90. The front will clear Baton Rouge on Friday Night, and that will allow us to turn a little cooler and less humid. Lows will be in the mid 60s.
Memorial Day Weekend: An area of high pressure will move over the Southeast U.S. all weekend. This will give us mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies Saturday through Monday. The humidity will be a little lower too! It will still be very warm with highs in the upper 80s each day. Lows temperatures will be somewhat cool each night as they fall to the lower to mid 60s. Overall, this will make for some fantastic weather all weekend!!
Keep an eye on the radar, take your umbrella and have a good day! -Dave
