Short Term Forecast: We start off this Monday Morning with partly cloudy skies and some patchy fog. It is cool with temperatures in the mid 50s. You may want to take that jacket with you and your umbrella too.
A cold front is located along the Louisiana Coast, and a strong disturbance will move into Louisiana from the north this afternoon. The disturbance will interact with the cold front and they will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Some could be strong to severe at times. SPC has placed all of South Louisiana in a Slight Risk for severe weather. The main threats will be damaging winds and hail, but there is also a slight chance for a tornado. The greatest chance of seeing severe weather today will be along and south of I-10 and 12. Otherwise, we will have a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the lower 70s.
The showers and storms will continue through the evening hours and they could still be strong. Then overnight it will become mostly cloudy with only a slight chance of a lingering shower or storm. Low temperatures will be in the lower 50s.
Week Ahead: Those two systems will move east of Louisiana on Tuesday and an area of high pressure will build in behind them. This will clear out the clouds by the morning and we will have a sunny afternoon. It will be much cooler with highs in the upper 60s. Tuesday Night will be clear and chilly with lows in the lower 40s.
Wednesday through Friday will remain sunny and we will see a gradual warm-up each day. Highs will be in the lower to mid 70s. Low temperatures will be in the mid to to upper 40s on Wednesday and Thursday Nights under clear skies. Friday Night will not be as chilly with partly cloudy skies and lows in the mid 50s.
Weekend Outlook: Southerly winds will return to the state on Saturday and Sunday. This will make it warmer and more humid with partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the upper 70s on Saturday and around 80 on Sunday. Saturday night will be partly cloudy with some patchy fog. Lows will be in the upper 50s. Sunday Night will be mostly cloudy with a chance of a shower as another cold front moves toward Baton Rouge. Lows will be in the upper 50s.
Tropical Outlook: All areas of the tropics are quiet and tropical cyclone formation is not expected through Tuesday.
Take your umbrella with you and have a great day! -Dave
